M2M Solutions’s Solutions Architect role involves leading a team consisting of several system administrators.

M2M solutions, a medium-sized organization, is currently expanding.

To accommodate the company’s various departments, six sites were purchased in Sydney.

Each building should have its own router to connect to the network.

The assumption is that each building will have its subnet. Company expects approximately 1200 workstations to be available across all sites.

Finance Office – 130 workstations

Transport Office – 135 workstations

Research Office – 280 workstations

Sales Office – 50 workstations

Information technology – 622 workstations

Head Office – 60 workstations

Task – At the moment, the company policy prohibits the use network analyzers on the organisational network.

A team meeting was recently held in which all employees agreed that network analysts could improve the efficiency of troubleshooting.

You were asked by another manager if protocol analyser was possible.

Explain the differences or similarities between network and protocol analyser, to a manager who isn’t IT-savvy.

A report (800 words (+/- 10%) to the board proposing the approval of network analyzers for diagnostic purposes in a new network architecture.

Your report should contain:

A brief explanation of protocol in relation to communication networks and the role played by network analysts.

The Task 1 example should provide an example of how network analysts could be useful in this context.

A comparison of the available network analysis tools.

This should include:

Benefits, associated cost, usability

You can make a recommendation about which tool you would like to use, and why.

Protocol Explanation and the Role of Network Analyzers

A protocol in Information Technology refers to a different arrangement or set of rules that are focused on the transmission and storage of media.

A protocol is used whenever we communicate with others via the internet or within our company network (Al-Fuqaha & Guizani (2015)).

Protocols enable collaboration between the communicating elements.

It is obvious that computers communicate in many ways. There are many protocols, including PPP and HTTP.

Network analyzers are sometimes called protocol analyzers or packet analyzers.

The network analyzer is an integration of hardware, programs and standalone hardware gadgets in a computer network that improves the network’s defense against malicious activity.

Although a network analyser can be used to reduce the risk of malware attacks, it is not intended to replace firewalls and antivirus software (Nelson 2017).

Many people are now more aware of the importance of network analyzers for their networks.

As networks become more sophisticated and more complex in this age, the understanding of network analyzers has waned.

This may be due to the rise of network analyzer tools, and the culture that believes that a network can heal itself.

They will not heal themselves, I promise.

In any network, network analyzer programs must be installed.

We will compare a doctor and network administrator to show you why we need a network analyser.

Both are extremely knowledgeable.

Both are highly knowledgeable. The network administrator saves the network and helps people avoid trouble.

If you have symptoms of a particular disease, a doctor will not simply look at you and make a diagnosis.

Instead, they will need to conduct multiple tests in order to obtain more information and make an informed decision based upon the results.

This is similar in nature to the situation of an engineer or network administrator trying find out why their network is not working.

It might suddenly not be able to ping other workstations. Or it may be becoming slower.

The network engineer should not be able to guess the problem or simply try to fix it.

They need to identify the root cause of the problem, determine the cause and then come up with a solution.

If a doctor wants to keep your body healthy and efficient, he will need to use multiple tools such as Xrays, EKGs, etc.

If he sees anything unusual, he will provide minimally invasive solutions.

If you’re in the exact same situation as your network, why not just use a network analyzer to perform network traffic management?

It would speed up the monitoring of your network and make it more efficient.

Monitoring your network 24/7 will alert you to any potential problems before they become serious.

This will prevent the need for expensive and time-consuming resources that can cost valuable money and time.

Analysis of currently available network analyzer tools.

There are many options for network analyzers available on the market today.

Among others, Wireshark (Network Analyzer Sniffer Tool NAST), Zenmap and Angry IP Scanner are all worth the effort of network administrators.

Wireshark is considered to be the most powerful in IT and the standard for IT (Sanders 2017).

Wireshark comes in a free or paid version.

This tool offers important features such as offline analysis, live capture and multiplatform support (can be installed on Windows and Linux, Solaris and OS X), and many other operating systems.

Because all network data captured can be viewed via a graphical interface, it is very simple to use.

It also offers rich VoIP analysis.

NAST, however, is a vital network analyzer tool.

It captures network traffic well.

This tool can be used to view a LAN host list, find internet gateways, control arp to detect arp spoofing and write log reports.

Zenmap monitors hosts’ uptime and helps to manage network upgrade plans.

Other features include version detection and port scanning, OS detection, OS detection, and IPv6 support.

You don’t need to spend a dime to implement any of these network analysis tools.

Any of these tools, regardless of your level of network expertise, will simplify the task of gathering data about your network and fixing any problems that may arise.

Wireshark should be used after we have clearly explained all the benefits and causes for network analyzers tools being implemented in our network.

Wireshark has been awarded and can be recommended to any network engineer.

Wireshark is the most powerful GUI-based open source packet analyzer.

It has been available for more than 20 years.

The last stable release was issued on October 10, 2017. (Ndatinya Xiao Manepalli Meng & Xiao (2015)

These reasons are why we have to make changes in our organizational policies to allow network analyzers to be used in our networks.
